قالت له: أحبك، لكن الطلاق أرحم وإن..
قاطعها: لن أطلق.
وكان منديل الكعكة الحجرية مطويًا بعناية بين أوراقه القديمة، وحين تأمله رآه- وجسده يرتجف دهشة- ينزف.
وجاء العم والخال والأخ الأكبر وابتسموا فى وجهه، وحدثوه عن القسمة والنصيب، ولما أحضر لهم منديله الذى ينزف ظنوه يسخر منهم. أوسعوه ضربًا وركلاً. وكتب الورقة ولم يرسلها لأنهم أخذوه معهم. قالت لهم وهى تنصرف بأسى: لماذا فعلتم به كل هذا؟!.
ربتت على رأسه، قالت له وقلبها يخفق إنها تريد العودة للميدان وإن خراطيم المياه التى بللت ثيابهم فى ذلك المساء البعيد لا يمكن أن تنسى. فقط صراخه أصاب قلبها بالوجع.
قال له سائق سيارة البنزين: كنت أعرف أنك ستفشل، اذهب فى مصيبة!
ولم يكن أمامه إلا أن يعلق جسده هكذا فى الهواء، كما رأى فيلم الأمس. كان المطرب يرتدى الجلد الأسود ويغنى بصوت رقيق حاول أن يقلده فاكتشف أن صوته مشروخ، تحسس حنجرته فكانت تخشخش مثل السحالى تحت الأوراق الجافة تتحرك.
اكتفى بأرجحة الجسد، وكان زوج الأم يدخل بسيارته الفنطاس فيصدمه ثم يعود فيصدمه.
