لهذا البحث أهمية وشأناً باعتبار متعلقه وموضوع تحقيقه، ذلك أنه يحمل في كيانه متناً وشرحاً هما من نفائس ما تركه الأوائل في مجال الدرس القرائي: فأما المتن، أو المادة المشروحة، فقصيدة من عيون الشعر العربي، هي في التراث القرائي من الأهمية بمكان مكين، تعتبر مصدراً بارزاً من مصادره، وتمثل اتجاهاً خاصاً من مدارسه، من حيث استيعابه لخصوصيات الأداء عند المدرسة القيروانية، تلك الخصوصيات التي لم يقع الحفل بها في إطار ما حقق -إلا ضمن التأليف في القراءات السبع، كمؤلفات مكي بن أبي طالب، والإقناع لابن الباذش، والدر النثير لأبي السداد الباهلي وغيرها، ومبلغ علمي أن القصيدة الحصرية تعتبر أول إنتاج قرائي في إفراد قراءة نافع على المذهب الأدائي لأهل القيروان يقع تحت التحقيق.
أما الشرح، فيشهد لأهميته أنه من أوائل شروح هذه القصيدة -إن لم يكن أولها- فليس بين ابن الطفيل والحصري غير شيخ واحد، هو الإمام أبو علي الحسن ابن خلف الشهير بابن بليمة (ت 514هـ)، صاحب (تلخيص العبارات في القراءات السبع)، وأكرم بشرح قد حاز إلى فضيلة السبق، علو السند، وعدالة الناقل وثقة الراوي... ثم هو شرح قد أتى على حقائق هذا النظم المبارك ومضامينه إيضاحاً واستجلاء، ولم يأل جهداً في التعرض لدلالاته ومعانيه تتبعاً واستيفاء، حتى كشف غوامضه ومبهماته، وفك مغلقه ومدغماته، واستخلص ضنين معارفه ومغانيه، واستخرج دفين مكتنزاته وثمين درره، فغدا النظم به يتبختر بياناً واتضاحاً، ويتمايل زهواً وافتضاحاً: ذلكم أن صاحب هذا الشرح عالم مقتدر، وأستاذ حاذق ماهر، ضرب بسهم وافر في علوم مختلفة، واستقى معارفه من مشارب متعددة وشرائع متنوعة... غير أنه -على باذخ مقامه- لم يعتن بالتعريف به، ولم يحتفل بالبحث عن تواليفه وآثاره، وتلك -لعمري- أهمية أخرى لهذا البجث: أن يكون أول من شق الطريق إلى التعريف بهذا الرجل الإمام، وانتشاله من وهدة الخمول وغمرة النسيان في إطار العناية بشرحه هذا، الذي يعتبر أول تواليف الرجل التي تقع تحت التحقيق، في حين ما زالت شروحها الأخرى في طي الإهمال: بين فقدان ونسيان.
