"Depuis le temps ou j'ai oriente mes etudes vers l'Afrique, j'ai tente serieusement de comprendre l'etat des musulmans dans ce continent; comment s'est infiltree dans les regions equatoriales et meridiennes; qu'elle a ete l'attitude des musulmans par rapport aux explorations geographiques qui leur ont permis d'etre en contact avec l'Europe, apres l'expulsion des musulmans de l'Andalousie, je me demandais souvent qu'elle en serait la situation musulmane? Qu'elle soit positive ou negative.
Plus je lisais des oeuvres ou des documents concernant les etudes africaines, plus je me sentais convaincu que l'Islam s'est repandu en Afrique, qu'il etait devenu une realite dans la plupart de ses Etats, et que les musulmans jouent un role important, soit dans leur attachement a ce continent, soit durant l'etape du pillage colonial ou durant la periode qui suivit l'independence. Ceci m'incita a plus d'etudes concernant les chefs du "Jihad" Musulman a l'Ouest du continent. J'ai fait des recherches sur les oeuvres du cheikh Ousman Ben Fouti, Al-Hajj Omar Al-Fouti Al-Tekrouri, l'Imam Samouri toure, Cheikh Al-Amin, Sayed Mouhammad Abd'Allah Hassan Mechdi As-Samadi, puis j'ai passe aux etudes concernant l'opposition nationale dans la plupart ades pays du continent et je me suis arrete longtemps face aux luttes de l'Emir Abd'El-Kader Al-Jazairi et l'Emir Mouhammad Abd'El-Karim Al-Khattabi et Omar Al-Moukhtar en Libye.
Le point commun entre toutes ces personnalites musulmanes fut la meme voie qu'ils suivaient concernant le sofisme, ce qui attira mon attention. Longtemps j'ai hesite a ce propos. Je me suis demande: Le soufisme a-t-il atteint le continent Africain? Est-ce le soufisme qui apparut durant les premiers siecles musulmans et prit un cote philosophique apres s'etre mele aux autres religions? Est-ce le soufisme qui appelle a certaines heresies et qui n'a aucun lien avec la "Chari'a" musulmane?."
Ce livre repond a toutes ces questions.
