في الاهتمام بقضية الكشف المبكر عن ذوي صعوبات التعلم، جاءت محاولتنا هذه لإعداد بطارية مقاييس التقدير التشخيصية لصعوبات التعلم، والتي تمثل مجموعة من المقاييس تقوم على تقدير المعلم أو الأب أو الأم لمدى تواتر الخصائص السلوكية المميزة لذوي صعوبات التعلم من حيث الحدة والتكرار والديمومة، من خلال الملاحظة المباشرة التي تقوم على رصد هذه الأنماط السلوكية في الفصل أو المدرسة أو البيت، المتعلقة بصعوبات التعلم النمائية المتمثلة في: الانتباه، والإدراك السمعي، والإدراك البصري، والإدراك الحركي، والذاكرة، وصعوبات التعلم الأكاديمية المتمثلة في: القراءة والكتابة، والرياضيات، وصعوبات السلوك الاجتماعي والانفعالي بأنماطها الثمانية.
وكان المنطلق الأساسي الذي أقمنا عليه توجهنا الحالي في إعداد هذه البطارية هو التوجه القائم على التشخيص الفردي بمعرفة الأشخاص الأكثر معرفة وقربًا ومتابعة واهتمامًا بسلوك التلميذ موضوع التقدير عبر مختلف المواقف والظروف، وهم المعلمون والآباء.
وقد اعتمدنا في اشتقاق فقرات مقاييس التقدير التشخيصية لصعوبات التعلم موضوع التقدير على مسح العديد من الدراسات والبحوث المتخصصة التي تناولت الخصائص السلوكية، المميزة لذوي صعوبات التعلم. وكان المحك الذي أخذنا به في اشتقاق فقرات هذه المقاييس هو اتفاق ثلاث دراسات محكية في الأقل على الخاصية المميزة.
وقد عرضنا للمحددات السيكومترية لهذه البطارية في دليل منفصل مرفق معها وفيه خمسة فصول على النحو التالي: الفصل الأول ويتناول قضايا تشخيص صعوبات التعلم بين الأسس النظرية والآليات التطبيقية، الفصل الثاني ويتناول الأسس النظرية لبطارية مقاييس التقدير التشخيصية لصعوبات التعلم، الفصل الثالث ويتناول العلاقات بين صعوبات التعلم النمائية وصعوبات التعلم الأكاديمية وصعوبات السلوك الاجتماعي والانفعالي، الفصل الرابع ويتناول بطارية مقاييس التقدير التشخيصية لصعوبات التعلم، الفصل الخامس ويتناول الخصائص السيكومترية لبطارية مقاييس التقدير التشخيصية.
