إن علم الحكمة يغسل النفوس من وسخ الطبيعة الظلمانية واذا عرفت النفس الحكمة خبت إلى عالم الأرواح ومالت عن الشهوات الجسمانية المميته للنفس وقد اتفق العلماء على أن الأسرار الرفيعة لا سبيل لنيلها إلا به وأنه هو الأصل في إدراك الفتوحات الإلهية والعلوم اللدنية واجتمعت آراء العلماء على أنه خفى فى الأسماء الحسنى التى أمر الله عباده أن يدعوه بها بل قال كثير منهم كل اسم عظيم في حق من وافقه وتقرب أو دعا به وجعلوا لذلك سبعة وسائل وهى علم الأعداد وعلم الأذواق وعلم الحروف وعلم الطبائع الأربع وعلم الكواكب والأفلاك والبروج والمنازل وعلم الاختيارات النجومية وسعدها ونحسها وشرفها واتصالاتها وعلم الأسماء والرقي والدعوات وعلى هذه العلوم مدار التصريف بسر الخالق في المخلوقات وقد أطلقوا عليها علم السيميا وهو لفظ معرب أصله شيم به عبراني معناه اسم الله تعالى وقد ألف فى هذه العلوم السبعة خلق لا يحصون ومن أحسن ما صنف في ذلك كتاب شمس المعارف ولطائف العوارف للإمام الحكيم الشهير أبي العباس أحمد بن علي اليونى.
