يهدف هذا الكتاب إلى خدمة البحث عن مصادر المعلومات في المحتوى الرقمي على شبكة الإنترنت، والإسهام في نجاح عمليات إسترجاع مصادر المعلومات العربية بشكل دقيق وفعال، وهو موجه للباحثين باللغة العربية في البيئة الرقمية، للمساعدة في تسهيل عمليات البحث عن مصادر المعلومات العربية، وذلك مردّه إلى أن اللغة العربية والعلوم المبنية بها تعاني من قصور واضح في إسترجاع المعلومات في البيئة الرقمية، والوصول إلى نتائج دقيقة في محركات البحث الخاصة بالمكتبات الرقمية، نظراً لعدم وجود انطولوجيا عربية مكتملة البناء، تساعد في تمييز الإنتاج الفكري العربي.
كما يسهم هذا الكتاب مع غيره في تطوير حلول تقنية، لتقديم خدمة الإسترجاع الفعال للمصادر الرقمية العربية، من خلال محاولة بناء نموذج انطولوجيا عربية Ontology، قادرة على إنتاج خرائط المفاهيم لمعاني المصطلحات المقدمة في نموذج الإختبار في هذا الكتاب؛ لتساعد في تمييز الإنتاج الفكري العربي، وتسهل عملية تصنيف المعلومات ذات الصلة بالإنتاج الفكري العربي، وتجميعها ضمن محتويات شبكة الإنترنت، عن طريق توصيف المفاهيم والمصطلحات والعلاقات في موضوع البحث، والوصول إليها بالطريقة التي تمكن محركات البحث من إسترجاع نتائج أكثر دقة، بواسطة الخريطة المفاهيمية، التي تقود إلى المعاني ودلالات الألفاظ، الممثلة عن طريق الربط بينها بعلاقات ذات معنى، يجعل ربط الأشياء ذات الصلة بعضها ببعض أمراً ميسوراً.
