يرتبط تدريس علم الأصوات في معظم الجامعات العربية بتدريس اللغات ولا توجد له برامج دراسية مُسْتَقِلَةٌ، أو دوائر أكاديمية منفصلة إلا النّزْر اليسير، ولا غرابة في هذا الوضع القائم لأن علم الأصوات يرتبط إرتباطاً وثيقاً بعلوم أخرى كعلم النفس والطب والهندسة.
ومن هنا، نرى ان برامج علم الأصوات ومناهجه تأتي ضمن البرامج المتخصصة في الدراسات العليا، أو ضمن مناهج أقسام اللغات الأجنبية.
أن هذا الكتاب يتناول بالبحث موضوعاً قلماً يكتب فيه باللغة العربية، فلا يجد القارئ العربي أمامه إلا المؤلفات والمجلات الأجنبية إذا ما أراد أن يكتسب معلومة جديدة، أو أن يعرف حلاً لمسألة لا تزال في ذهنه غامضة مبهمة، ومن المؤمل أن يسهم هذا الكتاب في توفير مصدر من مصادر المعرفة في ميدان الصوتيات باللغة العربية، هذا بالإضافة إلى أن المواضيع التي تمت معالجتها لا تقتصر على أصوات لغة معينة بل إنها تتصل بأصوات في لغات شتى.
ومن المؤمل أن تسهم محتويات فصول هذا الكتاب في تقديم المبادئ الأساسية والمعرفة الضرورية عن طبيعة الصوت اللغوي وخصائصه، إلى الطلبة الذين تشتمل حقول تخصصاتهم على فصول البحث في الجوانب النطقية والفيزيائية والإدراكية للصوت اللغوي.
لا يكتسب البحث والتنقيب العلمي ثوبه الجديد إلا بجهود متضافرة يشترك في أدائها الباحث ومساعد البحث والطابع والناشر الذين لا يألون جهداً في بذل قصارى طاقاتهم لتحقيق ما يصبو إليه الباحث وإشباع ما يَرْنو إليه من حب الإستطلاع الإنساني، وإلى هؤلاء الأحبة جميعاً الذين يشاركوني الجهد أقدم لهم جزيل الشكر، وأقر لهم العرفان بالجميل، راجياً الله سبحانه وتعالى أن يلهمنا قول الحق ولو على أنفسنا.
