يشكل كتاب أ. د. عماد صلاح الشيخ داود "دور الشركات متعددة الجنسيات في التحول السياسي العربي" دراسة أكاديمية معمقة عن دور الشركات متعددة الجنسيات في دول مثل تونس ومصر وسورية وليبيا والعراق، التي يوضح المؤلف من خلالها أنّ هذه الشركات هي عبارة عن هياكل اقتصادية عملاقة ترتبط ارتباطاً وثيقاً بوسائط السلطة والمال الواضحة المعالم مع المؤسسات المعنية بصنع السياسات العامة (في دول مقراتها)، وكذلك بمراكز الفكر ذات الأثر البالغ على أصحاب القرار كما هو بارز في قضية احتلال العراق ودول أخرى شهدت تحولات اقتصادية وسياسة وعلى أكثر من صعيد.
وبناءً عليه، يطرح المؤلف إشكاليته البحثية القائلة بأنه في خضم الحراك العربي المفاجئ إبان العام 2010، وما سبقه من تغيير في النظام السياسي العراقي في العام 2003 وتصاعد المطالبات بالحرية، وتمكين الشعوب من إدارة نفسها ديمقراطيّاً: ما هي طبيعة الدور الذي لعبته الشركات متعددة الجنسيات لتحقيق مصالحها مستفيدة من حالة عدم الاستقرار التي سادت في تلك الربوع في المراحل الأولى للتغيير؟ وما هي علاقاتها مع أصحاب المال والسلطة خلال مراحل التحوّل وبناء هيكل الدولة الجديدة؟ مما يستدعي تساؤلات تجيب عنها الدراسة عبر ثلاثة محاور.
المحور الأول: يتناول التعريف بالمفهوم ومراحل نشأة الشركات والعلاقة ما بين قوى السلطة والشركات وأهميتها للسيطرة على الدول النامية. بينما يتناول المحور الثاني: تأثير الشركات على الواقع العربي "تحالف السلطة والمال". ويختص المحور الثالث: بدور مشروع القرن الأميركي الجديد PANC، واستراتيجيات معهد بيكر للسياسات العامة المختص بسياسات الطاقة، والدور المناط بالشركات من خلال دراسة حالة احتلال العراق.
