قد يتعرض شخص ما لحالة نصب أو إحتيال، فيظل فترة طويلة من الزمن يعض أصابع الندم، ويتحدث إلى نفسه.. كيف صارت الأمور كذلك، وكيف غلفت عن هذا النصاب، وكيف أوقعنى فى شباكه، مع أن الأمور كانت واضحة، مجرد أن أتوقف عن الإنسياق وراء الأوهام. ويجلس هذا الإنسان مع ذاتع ليعطيها وعوداً بأنه لن يكرر ذلك أبداً، ولكن تمر الأيام، وتنسى هذه الحالة، لكى تعود حالة أخرى ولكن بشكل آخر، وهكذا أنهم أنبه النبهاء، وأذكى الأذكياء. ونحن هنا على صفحات قصة "المفتش العام" نجد أن هناك من يمكن أن يخدع نفسه، ويكبل مقاليد أمره بأغلال الخيالات الواهمة، فيجد فكره وعقله وأحاسيسه وقد أضحت - تحت سيطرة الرعب والخوف - ملكاً لشخص عابس يتصرف بضمير المحتالين، فيوقعه فى المهالك ويجعل منه أضحوكة الزمن!!. وإذا كان هذا الوضع مثار دهشة وسخرية بالنسبة لشخص واحد، فما بالك والأمر قد أحدثته مجموعة غير قليلة من الناس، وضعوا أنفسهم جميعاً فى قبضة نصاب واحد، أجاد إستغلال سذاجتهم، وحصل منهم على بغيته ثم تركهم يضربون أخماساً فى أسداس!.
إن القصة تحمل فى طياتها كثيراً من المفاجأت التى تشد القارئ وتأخذ بتلابيب فكره حتى يصل إلى النهاية غير المتوقعة، فيحدث له إنبهار وإندهاش، ويضحك كثيراً كثيراً..!
