لا يخفى على كل ذي لب أهمية الإرشاد في حياة الناس، وإنّ الآفات والأزمات التي تصيب النفس الإنسانية في أثناء الحياة هي التي تجعله بحاجة إلى الإرشاد، والإرشاد في المجتمع يتّخذ أنواع متعددة؛ فمرة يكون الإرشاد دينياً، وأخرى يكون إجتماعياً، وقد يكون نفسياً أو تربوياً أو أسرياً.. إلخ، وإذا كان الإرشاد له هذه الأهمية كلها والصور جميعها مع أفراد المجتمع عامتهم فإنّه مع فئة الطلبة له أهميته الخاصة، لأنّ الطلبة ثروة المجتمع، فإذا ما أعدوا إعداداً صحيحاً يمكنهم أن يكونوا قادة فاعلين في المستقبل، ويحقّقوا التقدّم والإزدهار لبلادهم، وبسبب تغير طبيعة العملية التعليمية من عملية تلقين إلى عملية تنمية بشرية، صاحبها مجموعة من المشكلات التربوية والنفسية، احتاج معها الطلبة إلى الإرشاد والتوجيه لتنظيم حياة الطالب مع زملائه، ومع معلميه، وإدارة المدرسة، وأسرته، فأسست أقسام تختص بتخريج المرشد التربوي، وأعدت مناهج لكليات التربية وغيرها، تضمّنتها مادة الإرشاد التربوي والنفسي، لتخريج معلم مرشد ليكون حلقة وصل بين المتعلم والمرشد.
وإنطلاقاً من أهمية هذا الميدان، جاء هذا الكتاب لينفع الطلبة الدارسين في كليات التربية الأساسية، إذ تمّ إعداده على وفق المفردات التي وضعتها اللجنة القطاعية على وفق آخر تحديث لها، إذا جاء الكتاب بفصلين وكل فصل يحوي ثلاثة مباحث، بأسلوب علمي مبسّط لينفع الطالب والباحث والقارئ المثقف.
