تعددت الطرق والأساليب التى أسهمت فى انتشار الإسلام فى بقاع الأرض ، فبعض المناطق دخل الإسلام فيها بالفتح ودخولها فى نطاق الخلافة الإسلامية ... والبعض الآخر عرف الدين الإسلامى عن طريق التبادل التجارى والتجار المسلمين ، وفى قارة إفريقيا نجد الطريقتين على السواء ...فحيث وجدنا الفتح الإسلامى لمصر والشمال العربى ، أيضا يمكننا ملاحظة الدور التجارى وعوامل اخرى فى جنوبها ، وهو مايستكشفه ويقدمه لنا فى هذا الكتاب الأستاذ الدكتور "السمانى النصرى " ... فيتتبع خطى الإسلام فى جنوب القارة السوداء وإنتشاره ، ولكنه لايقصر الدراسة على هذا فقط وإنما يتعرض لعلاقة إفريقيا بالإسلام والعروبة شرقها وشمالها وغربها .. ثم بدءا من الفصل الثانى يتناول على فترات زمنية متتالية بدءا من فترة زمنية تقارب صدر الإسلام ... حتى العصر الحديث ودور الاحتلال الأوربى فى وقف المد الإسلامى ... ويقترب المؤلف من الحياة العصرية للمسلمين فى الجنوب الإفريقى فيدرس دور بعض المنظمات والمؤسسات الإسلامية ، الشعوب المسلمة فى كل دولة على حدة ,
لم تحظ منطقة الجنوب الأفريقى باهتمام كبير من قبل الباحثين والدارسين والمهتمين بأمر الإسلام ، ومع ذلك تناول عدد قليل من الباحثين بعض جوانب الإسلام فى الجنوب الإفريقى فى شكل إشارات عامة ، ونتيجة لقلة المعلومات وندرتها وعدم وجود دراسات مستقلة عن الإسلام فى كل دولة من دول الاقليم ، جاءت المساهمات فى شكل اوراق تقدم فى المواسم العلمية والمؤتمرات والندوات وغيرها .
وقد تم نشر اغلب العمال التى قدمت فى كتب تخصص لنشر أوراق االمؤتمرات والندوات والمحاضرات .
ولم تصدر حتى الآن دراسة متكاملة لمؤلف واحد تتناول موضوع الإسلام فى الجنوب الإفريقى ولعل هذا البحث هو أول دراسة عن الأقليم تعنى بانتشار وأثر الإسلام .
