هذه ترجمة الطبعة الرابعة من كتاب "فلسطين" الّذي نشر سنة 1838م، وقام مؤلّفه القسّ ميشيل راسل أيضاً بنشر عدّة دراسات طبوغرافيّة أخرى لأجزاء مختلفة من منطقة الشرق الأوسط.
ويقول المؤلف في مقدّمة هذا الكتاب "أنّه لم يترك في دراسته، أيّ مصدر للمعلومات لم يرجع إليه في سرد الأحداث الّتي وقعت على هذه البلاد منذ تاريخها القديم المعروف، وعلى نحو مماثل، فإنّ الوصف الطبوغرافيّ مأخوذ من أعمال العديد من المسافرين والحجّاج؛ وفي إظهار ردود الأفعال الصريحة والمختلفة لهؤلاء الزائرين لبعض الأماكن المسيحيّة المقدّسة، فإنّ الكتاب يقدّم مثالاً ممتازاً لمواقف وآراء، في القرنين الثامن عشر والتاسع عشر، تجاه معتقدات الآخرين وأديانهم".
