ظهير الدين محمد بابر شاه المولود في 888هـ/1483م، هو أحد عظماء التاريخ الإسلامي. وقد أجمع كل المؤرخين الذين تناولوا سيرته أنه "من أقدر الحكام الذين تولوا العروش لا في عصره فحسب وإنما في مختلف العصور، فإذا قارننا بين بدء حياته السياسية عندما تولى عرش فرغانه وهو في الثانية عشر من عمره، ثم نجاحه بعد ذلك في تأسيس دولة استمرت لأكثر من قرنين، أدركنا تميزه بين الفاتحين سواء المعاصرين له أو السابقين عليه
وتاريخ بابر شاه هو الترجمة العربية لكتاب "بابر نامه" الذي كتبه ظهير الدين محمد بابر شاه مؤسس الدولة التيمورية في الهند من مطلع القرن السادس عشر. وهذا التاريخ تدور وقائعه في فرغانه وكابل والهند. والترجمة التي قمنا بها لكتاب بابر نامه هي أول ترجمة لهذا الكتاب القيم إلى اللغة العربية، ليس في مصر وحدها ولكن في المنطقة العربية كلها. والهدف منها هو إثراء المكتبة العربية بمصدر أساس من مصادر التاريخ والحضارة الإسلامية في القرن العاشر الهجري/ السادس عشر الميلادي.
من الآثار الفريدة فى اللغة التركية بلهجتها الجغائية، كتاب بابر المعروف باسم "بابر نامه" وقد أجمع المؤرخون من شق وغرب على أن هذا الكتاب أثر فريد سواء من حيث الحتوى أو الأسلوب.
وكتاب بابر هو السيرة الذاتية لظهير الدين محمد بابرشاه مؤسس الدولة التيمورية التى يعرفها الأوربيون باسم "دولة المغولة فى الهند" وقد كتبه
