وضعت هذا الكتاب وفي رغبة ملحة أن يكون زاد الأديب، ومرجع الطالب، وموئل المدرس، يتزود منه الأول بما يحتاج إليه لتستقيم عبارته، وتصح قوافيه، ويرجع إليه الثاني ليجد كيف يُسهل عويصُ النحو، ويذلل صعبه، ويؤول إليه المدرس – في الثانويات أو في الجامعات – ليلتمس منه شواهد جديدة مستقرأة من آي القرآن الكريم، ومن شعر العرب، فيستعين بها على مزج النحو بالأدب، وعلى جعل القاعدة تستنتج من النص.
وقد جمع هذا الكتاب في دفتيه جل النحو العربي، وعالجة معالجة حديثة اهتمت بالتسهيل والتيسير، ولم تغفل عما جد في ميدان "اللسانيات" المعاصرة، كما لم تهمل أسلوب القدماء في التناول والعرض، والارتكاز على "المعيارية" أحياناً، وسبب ذلك أنه قصد إلى طبقة خاصة من القراء، فيهم الأديب الذي يريد أن يعرف المستخدم من القواعد دون المهمل، وفيهم الطالب الذي تتعبه عبارة ابن عقيل في شرح الألفية، أو عبارة ابن هشام في "شذوره" أو مغنية"، وفيهم المدرس الذي يقرر قواعد النحو القديمة بأسلوب تربوي خاص.
