منذ ذلك اليوم توقفت زيارات المدرسين، وعبثا أهتم بنفسي، تملكني حزن خفيّ، لا شيء يعيد لي أملي الأخير، هذا الأمر جعلني عصبية جدًا، واصلت لعب الورق مع عمي، إنه شخص لطيف، لديه كل ما يتمناه - لكن الملل أصابني، لاحظ عمي هذا فبدأ يتحدث عن تفاهة الشباب الصغار وسعيهم وراء المتعة والتسلية، وأن هذين المدرسين لا يختلفان عن غيرهم، ولا تكفيهما جلسات اللهو عند عمي، بل يترددون على اليهودي أيضا للتسلية، حيث يوجد الكثير من الشراب والكثير من اليهود واليهوديات.
فسألته وأنا أضمر في نفسي غضبًا.... كلاهما؟ رأيت هناك ميشوف بالأمس.
فقلت في نفسي: ولماذا ميشوف؟ لما لا يكون بوت، لم يعد يفيد الكتمان، فقد علق صانع المراهم بذهني، قررت أن أذهب إليه قبل أن يأتي هو إلينا، منذ ذلك الحين وكل نفس أتنفسه يصيح قائلًا: تعالا! تعالا! تعالا! اليوم امتلكتني رغبة شديدة، بعد الظهيرة وأثناء لعب الورق وما كاد يملأني اليأس حتى ظهر بوت، بعده مباشرة جاء ميشوف بحجة أنه في نزهة ورآنا نجلس بجوار المنزل فجاء للتحية، وبدا وكأنه كان ليدخل إلى البيت إن لم يرانا في الخارج، جلست مدعية المرض ومتعبة عند الطاولة، وقد أسندت رأسي علي راحتي يدي وكأن بها ألم لا يحتمل وأنا أنظر بملل، بلا هدف كمن أصابه إغماء - قلت لنفسي: إن صورتي هذه من شأنها أن تلين الصخر.
