كانت اللغة العربية وعلومها - وما زالت - موضع عناية العلماء على مرّ الأزمان، وتتابع القرون؛ لأنها لغة القرىن الكريم ولغة الرسالة.
وكثيراً ما توجهت همم أهل العلم إلى هذه اللغة الكريمة يرعونها، ويوفرون لها أسباب الحفظ والسلامة؛ لا سيّما بعد أن دخل الناس في الإسلام أفواجاً، واختلط العرب بالعجم، فهبَّ الغُيُر من علماء الأمة إلى وضع قواعد النحو والصرف، بعد أن قاموا بضبط المصحف بالنفط إعراباً وإعجاماً.
وقد جمعت اليمن في تاريخها الفكري العريض تراثاً في الفقه واللغة والنحو والشعر وغيرها من العلوم الإنسانية؛ غير أن الجهود لم تتوافر - كما ينبغي - للعناية بتراث اليمن الفكري والأدبي، والإهتمام بما يستحق من الجمع، والتحقيق، والدراسة في جميع عصوره، وعلى إختلاف نزعاته، وإتجاهاته المختلفة.
واليوم وقد نهضت بتحقيق كتاب من التراث النحوي اليمني النفيس؛ وهو: "تشنيف السمع" للإمام البارع محمد الخاص بن عنقاء.
