بعد أن تعرف الطالب الصيدلي على طرائق التحليل الحجمي للمواد الدوائية من خلال مقرر الكيمياء التحليلية الصيدلانية (1) بالسنة الثانية، فإن مقرر الكيمياء التحليلية (2) يأتي ليبحث في طرائق الفصل الإستشرابية (الكروماتوغرافية) وبشكل خاص تلك الطرائق التي تستخدم على نطاق واسع في مجال التحاليل الدوائية على إختلاف أنواعها الكيفية كانت أو الكمية والتي اعتمدتها دساتير الأدوية المختلفة بداً بطرائق الإستشراب على الطبقة الرقيقة مروراً بطرائق الإستشراب الغازي ووصولاً لطرائق الإستشراب السائل عالي الأداء الذي بات لا غنى عنه في أي مخبر من مخابر الرقابة الدوائية حيث لا تستخدم هذه الطرائق بالكشف عن المواد الدواية ومعايرتها وتحديد الشوائب فيها وحسب وإنما باتت لا يستغنى عنها في دراسات الثبات ذلك أن كثيراً من طرائق التحليل الأخرى لا تعتبر طرائق مؤشرة للثبات.
كما أن هذه الطرائق لا غنى عنها عندما يكون المقصود فصل ومعايرة مجموعة كبيرة من المواد الدوائية بآن واحد الأمر الذي يتعذر بالتحاليل الحجمية.
