تعد تجربة المفكر الجزائري القومي، والسياسي المحنك، والمناضل الكبير عبد الحميد مهري(1926- 2012م)، فريدة من نوعها، وقد لفتت انتباه الكثير من الباحثين، والدارسين، وقد احتفت به الجزائر عدة مرات حيث نظمت مجموعة من الجامعات الجزائرية، والمؤسسات الثقافية، والعلمية لقاءات، وملتقيات، وندوات احتفاء بفكره، وجهوده، وما تجدر الإشارة إليه أن المفكر الأستاذ عبد الحميد مهري عرف بدفاعه عن اللغة العربية،وإيمانه العميق بالوحدة العربية،وقد ولد سنة: 1926م بمدينة الخروب التابعة لولاية قسنطينة، وانخرط منذ شبابه في صفوف حزب الشعب الجزائري ثم حركة انتصار الحريات الديمقراطية، وقد زج به في السجن من قبل سلطات الاستعمار الفرنسي سنة:1954م بعد اندلاع الثورة الجزائرية، وبعد خروجه من السجن عيّن ضمن وفد جبهة التحرير الوطني بالخارج، ومثل الجبهة في دمشق، وقد كان عضواً في المجلس الوطني للثورة الجزائرية، ثم في لجنة التنسيق والتنفيذ، و عند تشكيل الحكومة الجزائرية المؤقتة الأولى شغل فيها منصب وزير شؤون شمال إفريقيا، و في التشكيلة الثانية عين وزيراً للشؤون الاجتماعية والثقافية. وقد اشتهر بمشروع يسمى باسمه ؛ هو مشروع مهري يرد فيه على مشروع ديغول،و بعد استقلال الجزائر عُين أمينا عاما بوزارة التعليم الثانوي، ثم وزيراً للإعلام، والثقافة.
