تعد المدونات الشخصية من أنماط الإنتاج الفكري والتاريخي الذي يشكل أهمية كبيرة؛ حيث إنه يسجل الحدث غالباً حال وقوعهن وبين الأحداث المهمة التي مرّت على الكاتب، والثقافة السائدة في تلك الفترة.
وكان مؤسس قطر الشيخ قاسم بن محمد - رحمه الله - ممن اهم بهذا النوع من التدوين، وكذلك عدد من أفراد الأسرة الحاكمة في قطر، منهم الشيخ علي بن عبد الله آل ثاني - رحمه الله - وقد عمدنا إلى دراسة هذا النمط من الإنتاج الفكري والتاريخ من خلال تحقيق مدونتي الشيخين: قاسم وعلي، كنموذج على مدونات الأسرة الحاكمة في قطر.
وقد شدني إلى ذلك ما وجدته فيهما من معلومات وتواريخ جديدة، إضافة إلى تصحيح العديد من التواريخ المتداولة، وخاصة تواريخ الولادات.
وقد قسمت الكتاب إلى مقدمة وأربعة فصول وذيلته بخاتمة ومجموعة من الفهارس، وقد خصصت المقدمة للحديث عن أهمية البحث وأهدافه ومشكلاته، أما الفصل الأول فقد تناول فترة كتابة المدونتين بدراسة الحياة السياسية والإقتصادية والإجتماعية لدولة قطر، مما يهيئ القارئ للفصل الثاني والذي يتناول التعريف بصاحبي المدونتين ومنهج التحقيق، والذي ينقلنا للفصلين الثالث والرابع، اللذين يتناول الأول منهما تحقيق مدونة الشيخ قاسم بعرض الأحداث، وترجمة الأعلام، وبيان المواقع، وغيرها من الأمور التي تخدم النص المحقق.
أما الثاني منهما والذي يتناول تحقيق مدونة الشيخ علي، فقد عالجته بالمنهجية السابقة نفسها، وفي الخاتمة أبرزت مجموعة من النتائج والتوصيات، وأخيراً ألحقت بالبحث مجموعة من الفهارس قصدت منها مساعدة القارئ للوصول إلى المعلومة بأسهل الطرق.
