يتناول الكتاب تداعيات نشر حوار للكاتب الص حفي سعيد شعيب مع مرشد جماعة الإخوان المسلمين السابق محمد مهدي عاكف، والذي قال فيه "طظ في مصر وأبو مصر واللي في مصر".
ويقول شعيب: لم يكن أكثر من مجرد حوار صحفي، حاولت كما اعتدت الاجتهاد فيه، لكن الدنيا انقلبت، وبدلا من مناقشة، بل ومحاسبة المرشد محمد مهدي عاكف على خطيئته في حق البلد، وبدلا من دفع جماعة الإخوان إلى التخلي عن مفاهيمها التي تشكل خطرا على مستقبل الدولة الحديثة في مصر، تخندق الإخوان ومناصروهم للدفاع، والتشكيك في نزاهتي المهنية، ووصل الأمر إلى خسارتي لبعض ممن كنت اعتبرهم أصدقائي.
ويعرض الكتاب للسجال الدائر على خلفية ذلك الحوار كما يرسم بالكلمات ملامح صراع فكري طرحت فيه علي ساحة النقاش قضايا الانتماء الوطني والدولة المدنية وحقوق المواطنة، وهو النقاش الذي انعكست عليه أمراض القبلية السياسية في المنطقة العربية خاصة مع امتداده عبر الفضائيات والحدود إلى معظم الدول والصحف العربية.
