عنيت هذه الدراسة بظاهرة استدعاء الشخصيات التاريخية في شعر أدونيس لما لها من حضور بارز في شعره، وتهدف إلى الكشف عن قيمة حضور هذه الشخصيات من الناحيتين الفنية والدلالية، وما يكمن خلف هذا الحضور التاريخي من دلالات ورؤى، وبيان العوامل الداخلية والخارجية التي أسهمت في هذا التكوين الشعري لأدونيس، لاستظهار كيف استطاع أدونيس التعامل مع الشخصيات التاريخية في ظلّ رؤيته الحداثية. وقد حصرت الدراسة اهتمامها في قصائد أدونيس الشعرية لتستثني عمله الشعري الخاص المعروف باسم (الكتاب أمس المكان الآن) نظرًا لتجاوزه مفهوم القصيدة المعروفة وتأسيسه على فكرة تجاوز الأنواع الأدبية التي أصرّ عليها أدونيس منذ سبعينيات القرن الماضي، إضافة إلى ضخامة حجمه كعمل أدبي يحتاج إلى دراسة مستقلة به.
