هدوء تلك الحفرة وسكينتها، أعاداني إلى ذاتي، فبدأت أتلمس جذور خوفي، الذي علي أن أشفى منه قبل أن أخرج إلى الناس بحكاية جديدة، أكثر إرباكاً من حكاية "إلبيت"، وقد عادت بي الذكرى إلى أيام الطفولة المتأخرة، قبل المراهقة بقليل، وبالذات قبل أن يخصص لي والدي غرفة بمفردي، حين بدأت ملامح سواد ما تغشى شاربي، حينها كنت أستيقظ في هزيع الليل، أشعل شمعة حتى لا أوقظ أحداً في تلك الغرفة الوحيدة التي كنا ننام فيها جميعاً، أبي وأمي وجميع إخوتي، أستيقظ لأكتب ما رأيته في الحلم قبل أن تضيع مني تفاصيله في الصباح، لقد ضاعت مني أحلام كثيرة.
لذا، أعددت عدتي الصغيرة تلك حتى أقتنصها، كراس صغير الحجم، قلم أزرق، شمعة، وعلبة كبريت، ذات يوم عاقبني والدي بأن حبسني في المخزن حين ظن أن الصوت الذي يحدثه عود الثقاب هو لإشغال سيجارة، ورغم أنه لم يعثر للدخان على أثر ولا رائحة إلا أنه استمر في ظنه حيناً من الزمن...
