لن يكون لنا ثقافة حتى يثق كل منا بلغته. ولا أدرى كيف نعلم الشباب الثقة بالنفس وهم لا يثقون حتى بلغتهم، وكيف نعلمهم صدق العزيمة وهم يترددون فى الكثير مما يقرءون وكيف نعلمهم استقلال الفكر إذا كانت العبارات التى يستخدمونها مقصورة على عدد قليل منها، خوفاً من أن يقعوا فى المحظورات اللغوية، وأرجو أن لا يطعن طاعن فى آرائى هذه قبل أن يمعن النظر فيها فأنا لا أريد أن أحرم حلالاً ولا أن أحلل حراماً ولا أن يغفل الناس الفصحى العالية فى المناسبات التى تصلح لها وإنما أدعو إلى الاعتراف بالفصحى المخففة، مكتوبة أو مقروءة، حتى لا يتهم الذين يستخدمونها بالجهل أو القصور، ومن أول واجباتنا أن نجعل الطالب متمكناً من لغته وهو فى السادسة عشرة من عمره فلا يكون عنده الرعب الذى نعرفه فيه عند دراسته للعربية.
الكتاب فى كل أمة يفخرون بتصوراتهم الجديدة والأدب والثقافة، وهذه التصورات كثيراً ما تحتاج إلى اختراع ألفاظ جديدة تدل على هذه التصورات، وهم يفخرون بهذا التجديد. أما العرب فقد تعلموا أن كل جديد بدعة وان كل خروج على ما ورد فى المعاجم وعلى ما جاء فى كتب النحو القديمة يكون خطأ يخشى منه على اللغة العربية فيؤدى الى انهيار. وما سبب الانهيار فى الواقع إلا ذلك التزمت العنيف الذى جعل علمنا باللغة الفصحى ضئيلاً إلى حد لا تستقيم معه ثقافة عصرية.
