لا تزال الأمة الإسلامية تنتظر رجالآ ينهضون بها، ويعيدون بناءها، ويجددون مجدها، ويرتفعون بها إلى مقدمة العالم، ويتيحون لها التنافس من جديد، حتى تصير مرشد العالم وأستاذه كما أراد الله لها، أراد مهاتير محمد أن يكون أحد هؤلاء الرجال، وسعى ليكون قائدآ مختلفآ، فأثبت نجاحآ فى وقت قصير فى الحزب الحاكم، وجاهد حتى نال ثقة الجميع، ثم رشح للرئاسة عام 1981م فنجح بأقتدار، حيث وضع خطته التى لخصها فى النهوض بدولته رويدآ، حتى ينافس أمريكا ودول أوربا والصين، وخلال عقدين من الزمان أثبت مهاتير أن التغيير ليس مستحيلآ، فقط يحتاج إلى الإخلاص والصدق وحب الوطن، وأن يضع الحاكم وحاشيته مصلحة الناس وحياتهم ومعاناتهم نصب أعينهم، فبعد مرور عشرين عامآ حقق مهاتير كثيرآ من ختطه، فحول ماليزيا من دولة مستوردة إلى دولة مصدرة، وأسهم قطاع الصناعة فيها بنحو 90% من الناتج المحلى والإجمالى، وصارت المصانع الماليزية تنتج 80% من السيارات التى تسير فى شوارع ماليزيا، وانخفضت نسبة الفقر من 52% من نسبة السكان علم 1970 إلى 5% عام 2002، وأرتفع متوسط دخل المواطن الماليزى من 1,247 دولارآ سنويآ عام 1970 إلى 8,862 دولارآ سنويآ عام 2002.
ويطوف الكتاب فىأرجاء ماليزيا من ناحية الموقع والتضاريس والمناخ وغير ذلك، كما طاف بنا فى أرجاء شخصية مهاتير وأعماق نفسه، ويضع الكتاب خطوطآ حمراء تحت محطات من حياة ذلك الرئيس، ليرشدنا إلى الطريق القويم، ولنرى كيف صنع ذلك التحول الرائع فى ماليزيا خلال عقدين من الزمان، ثم نراه وهو يتنازل عن السلطة فى هدوء ليلم الراية لمن بعده ليكمل المشوار.
