استخدم تكنيك زراعة الأنسجة أو الإكثار الدقيق منذ أكثر من نصف قرن من الزمان لإنتاج نباتات خالية من الأمراض عامة ومن الأمراض الفيروس بصفة خاصة في الكثير من الحاصلات البستانية وذلك بزراعة القمم المرستيمية. والإكثار الدقيق يستخدم كتكنيك لإكثار وزيادة اعداد النباتات كما أن تكنيك إنتاج وزراعة الكالوس يؤدي إلى حدوث التباينات الوراثية والتي يتم انتخاب المرغوب منها مثل إنتاج نباتات تتحمل الملوحة والجفاف أو مقاومة للأمراض والحشرات وغيرها. ويستخدم الآن تكنيك الإكثار الدقيق أو زراعة الأنسجة النباتية في كثير من الأغراض.
وسوف نركز في كتابنا الحالي على تطبيقات زراعة الأنسجة في إكثار النباتات. ويقع الكتاب في إحدى عشر بابًا تبدأ بإعطاء فكرة عن الإكثار في النبات ثم عن التكنولوجيا الحيوية وتطبيقات عامة لزراعة الأنسجة ومن ثم تطبيقاتها على بعض النباتات الهامة للحاصلات البستانية (الخضر والفاكهة والزينة) وكذلك بعض محاصيل الحقل.
