يجتمع في هذا الكتاب موضوعين: هما ثمرة جهد الشيخ الدكتور جميل حليم الأشعري الشافعي" أولهما: كتاب: "لطائف التنبيهات على ما في صحيحي البخاري ومسلم من الرويات". وثانيهما: "كتاب تحذير اللبيب من بعض ما في الكتب من الأكاذيب" والكتابان- وإن اختلفا من حيث المضمون إلا أنهما متحدان عايةً ومقصداً. حيث يتناول المؤلف في الكتاب الأول ما يسميه العلماء في الماضي الاستشكالات على البخاري ومسلم، فعلَى جلالة قدر الامامين البخاري ومسلم- رضي الله عنهما- وعلى كونهما جاءا بأصح كتابين بعد كتاب الله.. أما في كتاب الثاني فحذر من بعض ما في الكتب من أباطيل وألَا يقع المسلم من الوقوع فيما يخالف الشرع الحنيف مما فيه دس وتحريف وبخاصة كتب مشاهير الائمة الفضلاء، والأولياء العارفين الذين يعتقد الناس فيهم الخير والعلم والصلاح.
وفي هذا السياق جمع المؤلف ما تفرق في بطون الكتب ونصوص الحفاظ والأئمة والمحدثين ما ورد في الصحيحن من أحاديث مبيناً حكمها، موضحاً تأويل ما يسوغ تأويله مما قاله بعض الحفاظ. وقدم ترجمة وافيى للبخاري ومسلم أكد على بيان عقيدة أهل السنة والجماعة في تنزيه الله عن الصورة والمكان والهيئة والاعضاء، كما أنه أعطى حيزاً كبيراً في الكتاب لبيان عصمة الأنبياء والدفاع عنهم وتنزيههم عمَا لا يليق بهم، فكان كتاباً نافعاً يحتاج إليه كل مبتدئٍ ومنتهٍ من أهل العلم.
