في فترة التأسيس والتوحيد للمملكة العربية السعودية، استعان مؤسسها بعدد من الرجالات العرب، الذين شغلوا العديد من الوظائف، وقاموا بأدوار مهمة، ويأتي على رأس أولئك المستشار يوسف ياسين، الذي ولد في سوريا وعاش فيها مقاومًا الاستعمار، إلى أن قادته الظروف إلى بلاط الملك المؤسس في عام 1924م، لتبدأ مرحلة جديدة في حياة هذا المستشار المثقف الرفيع، بدأت في رئاسته لتحرير صحيفة «أم القرى» ثم مديرًا عامًا للمطبوعات والمخابرات، إلى أن أصبح سكرتيرًا خاصًا للملك عبد العزيز ورئيس الشعبة السياسية في ديوانه، وقد أوكل إليه العديد من المهام الاستشارية. وقد كان عند حسن ظن الملك وثقته وموضع اهتمامه. في هذه الدراسة التي تبحث عن علاقة يوسف ياسين بالملك عبد العزيز، اعتمدت الباحثة على الوثائق التي حصلت عليها من عائلته، وعلى التسجيلات الصوتية الخاصة به، وعلى مذكراته الشخصية التي قام بتدوينها قبل وفاته، إضافةً إلى المراجع والمصادر التي تطرقت لتلك الحقبة من تاريخ الدولة السعودية.
