إن سؤال العبث ليس سؤال الأمس، وليس شيئًا ينتمي إلى الماضي، بل أنه سؤال الإنسان في كل زمان ومكان، وفي زمننا الغريب الذي اختلطت فيه الأوراق وتضاربت المعاني، واختلطت المعايير، وضاع كل شيء في لا شيء يعاود سؤال العبث الظهور مرة أخرى على المسرح الفكري. إن سؤال العبث هو في نفس الوقت سؤال عن المعنى، معنى هذا الوجود.
وكاتب هذه السطور إذ يعذبه سؤال المعنى، فإنه يحاول عبر هذا الكتاب أن يتسول ويتوسل شيئًا من الإجابة لدى بعض الفلاسفة والأدباء الذين أعيتهم أسئلة العبث ودوختهم دروب المعنى.
