يتحدث هذا الكتاب عن مياه دمشق وعن عظمة الشعب الذي أحدث قنوات مياه دمشق مشكلاً غوطة دمشق، جنة الله في أرضه، فهذا الكتاب ينشر مخطوطة لأول مرة تتناول علم توزيع المياه بدمشق وهندسة هذا التوزيع وطرق التوزيع، ويدرس الأنهار والقنوات ما خصص منها للسقاية وما خصص منها للشراب، باحثاً في بردى وفروعه والفيجة وتمديدها الى دمشق، ليخلص بالنتيجة الى أن بردى أصل تاريخ دمشق وهو الذي كتب تاريخها عبر العصور منذ سبعة آلاف عام قبل الميلاد، كما يجمع هذا الكتاب المفردات المستعملة في المياه بدمشق وهو أول جمع و شرح لتلك المفردات.

الشيخ محمد بن حسين بن حسين الشهير بالعطار و بالمدرس الحنفي الدمشقي ولد في السابع عشر من رمضان سنة سبع و سبعين و مائة و ألف, أخذ عن والده و عن الكثيرين غير والده, أهم مؤلفاته: عند الشطي رسالة في علم المياه, رسالة في الرمي بالقنبرة. رسالة في فن القبان مخطوطة. رسالة المزولة مخطوطة. توفي محمد العطار بالطاعون الذي أصاب دمشق و ذلك عام 1243-1828 و دفن في دمشق.
