ينطوي هذا الكتاب على قضايا الثلاث: التعريف بدرويش وهواجسه الشعريّة المستمرّة الّتي كانت تملي عليه الإنتقال من طور إبداعيّ إلى آخر؛ والعمل الهادئ على صوغ "شبه نظريّة للإيقاع وتطوّره في الشعر العربيّ"، ما يفصح عن طموح في "إنشاء نظريّة للإيقاع" تحتضن الشعر العربيّ كله؛ والقضيّة الثالثة، وهي إمتداد للقضيّتين السابقتين مائلة في: حيّز النثر في مشروع محمود الشعريّ، الّذي لازم الشاعر طيلة حياته، واحتجب وراء صيغ فنّيّة مختلفة.
ولعل ركون بروفيسور جبران إلى النقد العارف، من وجهة نظر الحياة، هو ما يجعل كتابه هذا (نظم كأنّه نثر) جديراً بالإحتفاء والتأمّل، فهو يقرأ شعر محمود درويش، ويقارب، على ضوئه قضايا شعريّة متعدّدة بمنأى عن "التصنّع" و"المزايدة".
ذلك أنّه عارف بالشعر إلى تخوم الإختصاص، وعارف لدرويش إنساناً وشاعراً ومجدّداً للقصيدة العربيّة، أضاء جبران دلالات الشعر وهو ينظر إلى قصيدة درويش المتحوّلة المتغيّرة الّتي لا تكفّ عن التجدّد، ونفذ، وهو يقرأ القصيدة، إلى عالم الشاعر الداخليّ الّذي كان يسير وراء مثال لا يعرفه غيره.
أنجز سليمان جبران، وهو يقرأ درويش في مستويات متعدّدة، دراسةً تتميّز بالمعرفة والموضوعيّة من دون تكلّف، وبوضوح يحتضن البساطة، أو ببساطة لا ينقصها العمق والإشارات اللامعة، انتهى إلى ما يرغب أن ينتهي إليه كل باحث جادّ، وإلى دراسة يحتاجها المشغولون بقضايا الشعر، وبشعر محمود درويش بخاصّة، عنوانها: نظم كأنّه نثر: محمود درويش والشعر العربيّ الحديث.
