مما لاشك فيه أنه فى ظل تعقد الحياة قى المجتمعات الحديثة أصبح من الصعب على الإنسان أن يسلك طريقه بدون ضغوط وتوترات, فإذا كانت الحال هكذا بالنسبة للراشدين فإنه أصعب ما يكون بالنسبة للأطفال, من أجل ذلك ظهرت جهود ومحاولات وقائية وعللاجية من جانب علماء النفس والتربية للاهتمام بالأطفال المضطربين نفسياً واجتماعياً ويشكل فهم الإنسان وعلاجه هدفاً أساسياً لعلم النفس الحديث, لذلك تعددت أشكال الممارسة العلاجية التى تهدف إلى تحقيق أكبر قدر من التغير فى شخصية الإنسان وجعل حياته أكثر بنائية وتوافقاً.
وفى مصر رصدت البحوث والدراسات العديد من أنواع الإعاقات, ولكن مازلنا فى حاجة لمزيد من الدراسات المتصلة بالعيوب والأضطرابات الكلامية ومن أكثر هذه العيوب انتشاراً مشكلة التلعثم فى الكلام.
وتحظى مشكلة التلعثم باهتمام كبير منذ عدة قرون, وقد عرضت عدة دراسات مختلفة لبيان طبيعة التلعثم وأسبابه وطرق علاجه ومع ذلك لم تزل بعض نواحى القصور فى هذه المشكلة غير واضحة حتى الآن, خصوصا فيما يتعلق بالأسباب والأساليب العلاجية.
ومن هنا كان من المفيد تناول إحدى المشكلات التتى تتناول بالبحث الاضطرابات الأكثر انتشاراً التى يعانى منها العديد من الأطفال وهى مشكلة التلعثم فى الكلام, حيث تسعى هذه الدراسة إلى توفير أسس موضوعية لتقييم بعض الأساليب والممارسات العلمية فى مجال علاج التلعثم لدى عينة من الأطفال المتلعثمين, والعمل على إكسابهم بعض المهارات الإجتماعية بهدف تحسين سلوكهم الأجتماعى كما أن الإجراءات العلاجية المستخمة فى علاج التلعثم تعكس إلى حد كبير أوجه الخلاف والجدل حول مفهوم التلعثم ونظريات علاجه.
ومن ثم فهناك عدد كبير من اساليب العلاج النفسى المتبعة فى تناول هذه المشكلة ومعنى ذلك أنه لا يوجد اتفاق على طريقة واحدة لعلاج التلعثم.
