في 22 أيلول 1991 ومع بداية الليل، حاضر نحو مئتي رجل مسلح حياً في بن طلحة، وهي ضاحية بعيدة من ضواحي الجزائر العاصمة.
ذبحوا بطريقة منهجية أكثر من 400 شخص من الرجال والنساء والأطفال، صراخ الضحايا وصوت انفجارات القنابل سمعت إلى مسافة كيلومترات عدة.
بقي العسكر الذين اتخذوا مواقع لهم على بعد بضع عشرات من الأمتار من بن طلحة، مزودين بمصفحات وسيارات إسعاف، في أماكنهم ولم يتدخلوا، بل ومنعوا أهل الجوار من التدخل ونجدة السكان.
هذا الكتاب هو شهادة مؤثرة لرجل يدعى نصر الله يوس عاش بنفسه تلك الليلة الكابوسية.
تظهر من خلال قصته رواية أخرى للمأساة مختلفة تماماً عن تلك التي أذن بها النظام الجزائري، وما بدأ عمل جنون همجي قامت به الجماعات الإسلامية يتضح أنه من تدبير طرف آخر، إنه نتيجة تلاعب أجهزة المخابرات السرية المباشر بالعنف الإسلامي وتحريكه. ومن خلال وصف الحياة اليومية في بن طلحة منذ انقلاب 1992 بين نصر الله يوس كيف تأتي هذه المجزرة ضمن تطور منطقي مفجع عملت وسائل الإعلام الجزائرية والفرنسية على التكتم عليه وإخفائه.
وفي قسم ملحق بالكتاب يعيد "فرانسوا جيز" و"سليمة ملاح" ذكر هذه الشهادة مرة أخرى ضمن إطار وجهة نظر التي يتبنيانها. وهما يبينان الدور الذي لعبته الجماعات الإسلامية المسلحة في الحرب الجزائرية الثانية، التي تسببت في مقتل أكثر من 150000 شخص ويقدمان عرضاً متكاملاً غير مسبوق لجملة القرائن التي تسمح بافتراض تورط العسكر الجزائريين في مجازر وأعمال مسلحة نسبت إلى الإسلاميين.
