تعتبر الادارة المالية احدى الوظائف الرئيسية في شركات الأعمال، حيث تشتمل هذه الوظائف بالاضافة لوظيفة التويل على وظيفة الانتاج والتسويق والمشتريات والمخازن ووظيفة البحث والتطوير. وتعرف الادارة المالية على أنها عملية اتخاذ القرارات المتعلقة بالحصول على الأموال بالشكل الامثل واستثمار هذه الأموال بكفاءة، بما يكفل تعظيم القيمة السوقية للشركة أو تعظيم ثروة المساهمين، وبالتالي المساهمة في تحقيق الهدف الأسمى للشركة وهو البقاء والنمو والاستمرار. هذا يعني بأن وظيفة الادارة المالية تتعلق بادارة حقيبة استثمارات الشركة بشكل يعظم العائد على هذه الاستثمارات عند مستوى مقبول من المخاطر، وبتمويل هذه الاستثمارات بمزيج مناسب من مصادر التمويل بالشكل الذي يؤدي الى تخفيض تكلفة رأس المال الى حدها الأدنى.
يتكون الكتاب من خمسة عشر فصلا موزعة على خمسة أقسام، يغطي القسم الأول مقدمة في الادارة المالية حيث يتناول دور وبيئة الادارة المالية والقوائم المالية وتحليل هذه القوائم. ويعرض القسم الثاني أهم المفاهيم المالية مثل مفهوم القيمة الزمنية للنقود ومفهوم العائد والمخاطرة ومعدلات الفائدة وتقييم السندات والاسهم، ويعالج القسم الثالث قرارات الاستثمار والتمويل طويلة الأجل المتعلقة بأساليب الموازنة الرأسمالية وتكلفة رأس المال وهيكل رأس المال والرفع سياسة توزيع الارباح، ويبين القسم الرابع القرارات المالية قصيرة الاجل المتعلقة بادارة رأس المال العامل وادارة النقدية وادارة الذمم المدنية والمخزون. أما القسم الاخير فيبحث في التخطيط المالي طويل الأجل.
