نما شعر الفكاهة المسمى بالشعر الحلمنتيشي وازدهر خلال النصف الأول من هذا القرن, ولا خلاف بين الذين كتبوا عن هذا الفن على أن هذه التسمية من وضع الشاعر الذي تفرد بإبداع هذا اللون وهو الشاعر حسين شفيق المصري. وقد حاول أستاذنا الدكتور محمد رجب البيومي تأويل هذه التسمية فقال: "ولا أدري كيف اشتهر هذا اللون من الشعر بهذه التسمية التي لا أعرف على وجه اليقين مأتاها, وإن كنا نعرف جميعاً مدلولها, والذي أظنه ظناً لا يصل إلى الاطمئنان المستقر أن الأستاذ حسين شفيق المصري قد نسب هذا الشعر إلى ندوة "الحلمية" نسبة على غير قياس عربي, وقل أنها نسبة تجمع بين العربية والعامية معاً في لفظ واحد, وهو ما يدل على مضمونه.
