وقد تمثل ذلك في تجادل حضاري متميز؛ فقد أخذت مجتمعات الشرق الأدنى القديم عن الحضارة الرافدية الكثير من الإسهامات الإبداعية في مجالات وميادين معرفية عدة، كما أن بلاد الرافدين أخذت هي الأخرى من جانبها الكثير عن مجتمعات الشرق الأنى القديم، واستفادت من تجاربها؛ وتمثّلت الحصيلة في تمازج حضاري قلّ أن عرفته منطقة أخرى في العالم.
ولعل الجانب المهم في حضارة بلاد ما بين النهرين - بإعتباره حصل على قدرٍ وافرٍ من التدقيق والتمحيص البحثيين - يتمثل في التراث الأسطوري الغني الذي قدمته تلك الحضارة للبشرية، وهو يجسّد تصورات وتطلعات الإنسان الرافدي المتفاعل مع بيئته الطبيعية؛ كما يجسّد في الحين ذاته مجمل ما عرفه المجتمع الرافدي من نجاحات وإخفاقات وهيمنة، وذلك على الصعيدين الإجتماعي والسياسي، وحتى على الصعيد الإقتصادي.
