كان مما جرى على لسان النبي "صلى الله عليه وسلم" من الحكمة أحاديث ينسبها إلى ربه، ويسندها إلى مولاه، فيها من المواعظ الربانية، والإرشادات الإلهية ما ينير ظلام القلوب، ويهدي حيرة النفوس، ويهذب الأخلاق والطباع، ويدعو إلى فضائل السلوك ومحاسن الأعمال، قد سماها العلماء: "الأحاديث القدسية" أو الإلهية. ثم كان من توفيق الله لي أن هداني إلى محاولة جمع الأحاديث القدسية في مصنف جامع يقيد أوابدها، ويستقصي شواردها، فشمرت عن ساعد الجد، ونقبت عنها في المصنفات الحديثة المطبوعة كبيرها وصغيرها حتى اجتمع لي منها شيء كثير، فقمت على ترتيبها وتبويبها حسب موضوعها ومن داخل الموضوع حسب رواتها من الصحابة، ثم نهضت على تحقيق أسانيدها وفحص متونها، وشرح غريبها، والتعليق على كثير من معانيها، ثم ذيلت الكتاب بفهارس علمية لأطرافه ورواته وموضوعاته.
