التبول اللاإرادي يرتبط ارتباطا وثيقاً بالمعاملة وأساليب التربية داخل الأسرة، حيث أن ثقافة التربية والمعاملة غير السوية قد تؤدي إلى ظهور مشكلة التبول اللاإرادي مثل العقاب- التخويف- الإهمال- الحماية الزائدة فيلجأ الطفل للتبول اللاإرادي كسلوك مضاد لتلك المعاملة غير السوية.
ومن هنا فإن هذا الكتاب هو معالجة سلوكية أسرية لمشكلة التبول اللاإرادي، حيث تقوم هذه المعالجة على مدخل العلاج السلوكي في مواجهة مشكلة التبول اللاإرادي من خلال تغيير السلوك أو محاولة إيقافه من خلال طرق التوجيه والإيماء والترهيب والترغيب والإرضاء والتعليم والتعويد، وربط المعاني فيها بمراسيم معينة من السلوك والتصرف، والعلاج السلوكي يقوم على نموذج الإشراط الكلاسيكي، ونموذج الإشراط الإجرائي، ونموذج التعليم عن طريق الملاحظة، ونموذج التنظيم الذاتي، ويقوم العلاج السلوكي ببناء سلوك جديد للطفل المتبول من خلال التشكيل والحث والإزالة والإرشاد المادي والنمذجة.
ويقوم الكتاب أيضا بمعالجة مشكلة التبول اللاإرادي من خلال العلاج الأسري، حيث أن الأسرة هي التي تتولى تنشئة الطفل والأسرة هي التي تمد الطفل بمجموعة من القيم والأفكار والنظرة إلى الحياة.
