أنجبت جزيرة "شقر" الأندلسية، الواقعة إلى الجنوب من مدينة بلنسية، عدداً من اعلام الأدب الأندلسي، وفي أثناء تتبعي لأخبار هذه الجزيرة صادفتني في المصادر الأدبية والتاريخية عناية كبيرة بمرج الكحل الأندلسي، ووجدت في شخصية هذا الأديب وأخباره وأشعاره ما يدعوا إلى دراسته، ولم يثني عن النهوض بهذه الدراسة صدور دراستين عن هذا الشاعر، إحداهما بعنوان "ابن مرج الكحل حياته وشعره" للدكتور فوزي عيسى، والثانية بعنوان: "ابن مرج الكحل وما تبقى من شعره" لنجم عبد علي، فعلى الرغم من قيمة هذه المحاولات الثلاث السابقة وأهميتها في الكشف عن شاعر متميز من شعراء جزيرة شقر إلا أن تشتت شعر مرج الكحل بين دراستين ومستدرك، وانتشار أخباره وأشعاره في مصادر مختلفة، حفزني إلى لم شتات هذا المفترق واستيفاء المصادر التي ترجمت له وأوردت من أشعاره وأخباره، متوكلاً على الله سبحانه، ولست أدعي أنني وقفت على كل ما تبقى لمرج الكحل من أشعار وأخبار، فلعل الأيام تكشف لنا عن مخطوطات جديدة تضم أخباراً عنه وأشعاراً له، ومن يدري، فلعل ديوانه، الذي تحدثت عنه المصادر ووصفته بالشهرة، يظهرفي خزانة خاصة أو دير أو زاوية في بقعة من بقاع الأرض.
