عندما وصلت إلى المكان الذى حددته "سامية" ، حدثت نفسى "الساعة اتنين ونص تقريبا .. كويس .. لسه نص ساعة أكون أخدت نفسى ، ويكون النهجان راح"
كانت المقاعد خالية من الجالسين ، وقليل من المارة يمشون مسرعين على الرصيف ، أما الشارع فيعج بالسيارات التى تصدر ضجيجا لا يطاف .. لم تفلح مياه النيل فى تلطيف حرارة المش الحارقة.
انتقيت مقعدا ذو موقع ممتاز ، واتكأت على السور الحجرى أمامه ، رفعت يدي عنه فقد لسعتها سخونته الشديدة. تراجعت خطوة إلى الوراء ورحت أنظر إلى النيل الممتد أمامى .. كنت أتلفت خلفى على فترات منتظمة كل بضعة دقاق بحثا عن سامية إذ ربما لا ترانى ، فألمحها عندئذ وأنادي عليها قبل أن تتعب عيونها فى البحث عنى .. ونظرت فى ساعتى ، كانت قد تجاوزت الثالثة ولم تأتى سامية بعد.
