" خان السلمان" هي الجزء الأول من رواية "رحلة صالح" للروائي العراقي المقيم في المملكة المتحدة "إياد هندي" وهي رواية البحث عن الطموح، والحلم برؤية واقعية مجردة عن تراكمات ورواسب الماضي، من خلال مغامرة الشاب صالح الجريء قليل العلم والخبرة مدفوعًا بطموح جارف للخروج من دائرة قريته الضيقة، سعيًا لتحقيق أحلامه في المدينة، ومستلهمًا من تجربة أقرانه الذين سبقوه على الرغم من المعاناة التي يتكبدونها بعيدًا عن موطنهم.
تدور أحداث الجزء الأول من الرواية في مضيف مغمور ومقفر بجانب الطريق السريع يدعى "خان السلمان" يتوقف فيه "صالح" المرتحل عن قريته للمبيت ليلة واحدة، ويلتقي هناك الشيخ راعي المكان الذي يعاني من شظف العيش ومرارة الوحدة بانتظار ابنه الغائب، ويتغير مسار الرحلة بظهور طفل معوق أبكم يرشدهم لجثة امرأة ملقية بالقرب من الخان، ويضطر صالح للبقاء في الخان وعدم الرحيل لحين انتهاء التحقيق في الجريمة، وتتوطد العلاقة الإنسانية بينه وبين الطفل.... وتتطور الأحداث في الخان، وتتكشف العديد من المفاجآت والحقائق وراء الجريمة، تذخر الرواية بالعديد من الشخوص والنماذج التي تشكل واقع صالح الجديد في رحلته.
