أنور محمود زناتي ولد في 20 تشرين الأول/أكتوبر 1971 بالقاهرة، كاتب وأكاديمي مصري في مجال التاريخ والحضارة. ويعمل بجامعة عين شمس له كتابات متعددة في مجالات مختلفة مثل صدام الحضارات والاستشراق والإسلام، وتهويد القدس. حائز على جائزة الأستاذ الدكتور عبد الحميد العبادي من الجمعية التاريخية 2005 م، وجائزة الإبداع من السويد 2008 م وعضو الهيئة الاستشارية في دورية كان التاريخية المحكمة ومؤسس الجمعية التاريخية لشباب الباحثين

تعد دراسة مصادر الحروب الصليبية بلا شك كنزاً ثميناً للباحثين، ويستطيع الباحث في مجال الحروب الصليبية أن يستفيد من المصادر والدراسات التي تناولت تلك الفترة الحساسة فتكون له بمثابة المرشد الأمين ناهيك عن قيمتها كمورث ثقافى وحضارى.
ومن هنا يمكن لكل باحث أن يحدد مصدره الخاص وأن ينظر في الوقت نفسه إلى أمهات الكتب التي قد تعينه على مزيد من الكشف والتقصي. وكانت خطتي في العمل هي: عرض ترجمة لصاحب المصدر متضمنة باختصار (عصره ثقافته ومذهبه الفقهى، شيوخه الخ) ثم التعرض للمصدر ذاته من حيث (المحتوى والمضمون.. الخ)
فتمثل المرحلة الصليبية وباعتراف أقطاب الفكر في الشرق والغرب فترة حساسة في تاريخ العلاقات بين أوربا والعالم الإسلامي، وكانت مرحلة مايئة بالعنف والحروب والنهب والمذابح الوحشية وتدمير المدن، وتصاعد الحقد والكراهية وعدم الاستقرار.
وتوحدت جميع القوى الأوروبية المتصارعة من أجل شن حروب تدميرية بشعة ضد العالم الاسلامي، وتمكنت الحملات الصليبية من سحق بلاد الشام واقامة اربع ممالك صليبية فيها (الرها-أنطاكية-بيت المقدس-طرابلس) فقد احتلوا القدس في يوم حزين من أيام شهر يونية1099م. وبدأ سيناريو الشرق والغرب ومن هنا نبحر معاً في مصادر تلك الفترة.
