نواجه في عصرنا الحاضر أشكالاً مختلفة من الادعاءات كل منها يقدم فكرته على الآخر ويدعي بأنه الطريق الوحيد لخير وسعادة البشرية، بعضهم يرفع شعار التبليغ للتعاليم الإلهية والأحكام السماوية، والبعض يقول أن فكرته تجلب الخير للبشرية، ومن بين هذه الفكرة وتلك النظرية نطرح نحن أفكارنا ونعتبرها الحبل المتين التي توصل الإنسان إلى السعادة الأبدية. يقول (اريك فروم): ليس الأمر يكون الإنسان يملك دين أم لا، بل الأمر، ما هو الدين يجب الإيمان به؟ ولماذا؟ ولو طبقنا هذا القول على دعوى التمسك بالإسلام لتوجه السؤال إلينا: لماذا الإسلام؟ وجوابه محفوظ بين صفحات هذا الكتاب.
وقد اهتم المؤلف بالنقاط التالية التي تضمنها هدف الكتاب: أولاً: يجهل الكثير من الناس الإسلام ولا يعلمون ماهية. ثانياً: الإعلام غير الإسلامي وتبليغه لمعتقد أهم مع كونهم محاطون بالشك والتردد. ثالثاً: استغلال جهل وتخلف الناس تمرير طرق منحرفة للعيش. رابعاً: نشر الأفكار المخربة وإلقاء التهم على الإسلام. خامساً: صرف اهتمام الناس بالأقاويل والتخيلات المنسوجة باسم الإسلام. سادساً: دس الأوهام وخلطها بالتعاليم الإسلامية. سابعاً: السعي الجاد لإيقاظ الأمة الإسلامية ونجاتها وهدايتها إلى طريق التكامل، والتأكيد على مبدأ هو أن الإسلام قادر على إسعاد البشر في جميع العصور ولا سيما عصرنا الحاضر.
