إن كتاب "قبول الأخبار ومعرفة الرجال" هو من نوادر كتب المعتزلة المخطوطة، المتعلقة برجال الحديث، ونسخته الوحيدة محفوظة في دار الكتب المصرية - قسم المصطلح - تحت رقم (114)، وأما النسخ الموجودة في سائر مكتبات العالم فهي مصورة عن هذه النسخة الوحيدة، مثل التي في مركز الملك فيصل.
ويبلغ عدد أوراقها (110) ورقات، في كل ورقة صفحتان وفي كل صفحة (25) سطراً، وهي نسخة قديمة غير منقوطة، جيِّدة ومقروءة، إلاّ في بعض أوراقها فقد أذهب التصوير منها مقدار سطر عدة كلمات، وقد أشرنا إلى ذلك في مكانه، بوضع نقاط (...) إشارة إلى أن ها هنا كلاماً غير واضح لم يظهر في التصوير أو كان في رأس الصفحة لم يظهر للسبب نفسه.
وكتب على الغلاف اسم الكتاب كاملاً، وكذلك اسم مؤلفه، وعلى الغلاف بعض الملاحظات التي تخص المؤلف واسم المستنسخ، وكذلك بعض أسماء من تملك الكتاب وتصعب قراءة جميعها.
