درس الفقه الإسلامي في جامع الفاتح بالآستانة ثم أصبح مًدرِّسا فيه ثم أصبح رئيسا للمدرسين فيه وعُيِّن وكيلا للمشيخة الإسلامية في دار الخلافة العثمانية الا انه اضطر للهجرة إلى مصر بعد استيلاء كمال اتاتورك على الحكم، حيث استقر فيها عام 1922 م فعيّن موظفا في دار المحفوظات المصرية لترجمة الكتب والوثائق التركية. كان الشيخ الكوثري من نشطاء الشراكسة القوميّين في استانبول حيث كان من مؤسِّسي جمعية التعاون ال درس الفقه الإسلامي في جامع الفاتح بالآستانة ثم أصبح مًدرِّسا فيه ثم أصبح رئيسا للمدرسين فيه وعُيِّن وكيلا للمشيخة الإسلامية في دار الخلافة العثمانية الا انه اضطر للهجرة إلى مصر بعد استيلاء كمال اتاتورك على الحكم، حيث استقر فيها عام 1922 م فعيّن موظفا في دار المحفوظات المصرية لترجمة الكتب والوثائق التركية. كان الشيخ الكوثري من نشطاء الشراكسة القوميّين في استانبول حيث كان من مؤسِّسي جمعية التعاون الشركسية عام 1908 م في استانبول .
له مؤلفات دينية كثيرة قد تزيد على خمسين مؤلفاً ومنها: (الإشفاق على احكام الطلاق) (تأنيب الخطيب على ما ساقه في ترجمة ابي حنيفة من الأكاذيب) ورسالة (إحقاق الحق وإبطال الباطل) و(مُغيث الخلق في ترجيح القول الحق) ورسائل في سير وتراجم كل من الإمام زُفز، ابي يوسف القاضي، محمد الشيباني، البدر العيني، الحسن بن زياد، محمد بن شجاع والطحاوي. وله كتاب (التعليقات المهمة على شروط الأئمّة) وتخريج كتاب (التبصرة في الدين)، وتكملة كتاب (السيف الصقيل) للسبكي والعشرات من المقالات المختلفة في المجلات والصحف العربية.
كان مرجِعا في الحديث النبوي الشريف ورِِجاله وحُجّة في المراجع والمكتبات العامة والخاصة في العالم العربي والإسلامي. صحّح الجزء الخاص عن الشراكسة في دائرة المعارف الإسلامية وعلّق عليه وشارك الاستاذ حسن قاسم في كتابة الجزء الخاص بالشراكسة في مؤلفه الكبير ( المزارات والآثار الإسلامية في مصر والقاهرة). وضع رسالة مُطوّلة تبحث في تاريخ الشراكسة في مصر وهي ما تزال مخطوطة متداولة بانتظار النشر، وفيها تفنيد للكثير من المُغالطات والتجنِّيات التاريخية بشأن دولة السلاطين الشراكسة في مصر.

هذا هو الإمام محمد بن الحسن الشيباني هل من علمه الكثيرون من رجال وعلماء الدين من كل المذاهب على السواء. كتب عنه الشيخ الكوثري في هذا الكتاب متناولًا نسبه ومولده وشيوخه الذين تتلمذ على أيديهم وأمر اتصاله بأبي حنيفة ورحلته إلى مالك وما جرى بينهما وكذلك رحلته إلى الشافعي يتعرض أيضًا في الكتاب لأخلاقه وزهده وذكرالفصل لشيوخه وعرض بعض كلمات أهل العلم عنه وعن مكانته وعلمه.
