قَيَّمَ العَرَبُ قَدِيمًا الكَلَامَ بِبَلاغَتِهِ كَما قَيَّمُوا الذَّهَبَ بِنَقَائِهِ وَصَفَائِه، وَلمَّا كانَ العَرَبُ أَهْلَ فَصَاحَةٍ وَبَلاغَةٍ فَقَدْ جَعَلُوا «البَلَاغَةَ» عِلْمًا لَه مَشَارِبُهُ وَقَواعِدُه. وكِتَابُ «جَوَاهِر البَلَاغَةِ في المَعَانِي والبَيَانِ والبَدِيع» جَمَعَ ما تَناثَرَ مِن هَذا العِلْمِ الجَلِيلِ مِن فُرُوعٍ وأُصُول، فَحَرَصَ الكَاتِبُ «أحمد الهاشمي» عَلى أنْ يَضَعَ بيْنَ يَدَيِ المُحِبِّ والدَّارِسِ لِهَذا العِلْمِ أُصُولَ ومَفاتِيحَ عِلْمِ البَلَاغةِ بِجَوَانِبِهِ الثَّلاثَة، وسَمَّاهُ «جَوَاهِر البَلَاغَة»، وهيَ حَقًّا جَوَاهِرُ تُزيِّنُ المَنْطُوقَ وتُؤصِّلُ المَكْتُوب. وقد وَضَعَ الهاشِميُّ هَذا الكِتابَ لِيُناسِبَ النَّاشِئَة؛ فأَوْرَدَ بِه التَّدْرِيباتِ والتَّطْبِيقاتِ عقِبَ كُلِّ جُزْءٍ مِنْه؛ فجاءَ سَهْلًا لِغَيْرِ المُتَخَصِّصِين، عَوْنًا لِأهْلِ لُغَةِ الضَّاد.
