أفضل البلاد المعمورة من شق الأرض الشمالي الي الجزيرة الكبري، وهي الجزيرة التي يسميها بطليموس (ماروي) تقطع علي أربعة أقاليم، من عمران الشمال الي الخامس، فجنوبيها: اليمن، وشماليها: الشأم، وغربيها: شرم أيلة وما طردته من السواحل الي القلزم وفسطاط مصر، وشرقيها: عمان والبحرين وكاظمة والبصرة، وموسطها: الحجاز وأرض نجد والعروض، وتسمي جزيرة العرب، لأن اللسان العربي في كلها شائع وأن تفاضل ومبتدأ عرضها -علي ما يقول الحساب- علي ساحل عدن إثنتا عشرة درجة، وظل رأس الحمل في هذه المواضع: اصبعان ونصف عشر أصبع، وما يشرع منها بالشأم علي عرض اثنين وثلاثين جزءاً وثماني أصابع ونصف من الظل: بيت المقدس؛ وما يشرع منها علي عرض ثلاثة وثلاثين جزءاً وثماني أصابع إلا خمسا من الظل: الرملة من فلسطين وسليمة وبعلبك -معربة باعل بك- وقيسارية وصيداء والأنبار وبغداد ومن ناحية العراق.
