هذا كتاب في بيان حال السلف عند ختمهم القرآن، والأحوال المبتدعة عند الخلف، حاول فيه الكاتب أن يتتبع الأقوال الواردة في المسألة؛ سواء كان دعاء الختم داخل الصَلاة أم خارجها، وكذا أن يبيَن المذاهب والنقولات الوادرة عن السلف والفقهاء المتبعين؛ ولا سيما التضارب الوارد عن الإمام أحمد، لذا وقف الكاتب على جهوده متعددة، أفردت (دعاء ختم القرآن) بالتصنيف، وهي: كتاب الشيخ بكر أبو زيد رحمه الله: "مرويات دعاء ختم القرآن، وحكمه ذاخل الصلاة وخارجها". وبحث للدكتور عبد الرحمن بن سعدي الحربي، بعنوان:" بيان حكم دعاء ختم القرآن داخل الصلاة وخارجها". وبحث للدكتور صالح بن أحمد الغزالي بعنوان:" دعاء ختم القرآن، وما يلحق به من مسائل وفروع". "وفضل ختمة القرآن وأحكامها" لخالد بن البليهد. "والفرقان في بيان ما يثبت وما لا يثبت من آداب ختم القرآن"، لنادر الناطور.
ومعتمداً في منهج بحثه في تتبع النقولات من بطون الكتب، وأمعن النظر فيها، وحاكم بالأدلة الثابتة عن الصحابة والتابعين، وحلرص على تصويرها على الحالة التي كانت تؤدي فيها، وقارن بينها وبين ما يجري في عصرنا، وبيَن أن إختيارات السابقين من العلماء والأئمة والفقهاء مؤتلفة غير مختلفة، وأن الخلاف بينهم فيها يسير، وأن المنقول عن الإمام أحمد ليس ببعيد عن إختيارات سائر إخوانه الفقهاء؛ ولا سيما قوله بمشروعية دعاء الختم في داخل الصلاة.
وهكذا؛ كان من فرائد فوائد هذا الكتاب: معالجة التداعي للطاعات على وفق منهج أهل الصواب، معتمداً في ذلك على ما ثبت عن النبي صلى الله عليه وسلم والأصحاب، مراعيَاً حدود ذلك وضوابطه، دون تعدَ أو تجاوز؛ ولا سيما في المسألة المبحوثة (دعاء الختم)..
