يحتوي هذا الكتاب ين طياته على ذكر لمن روى عن الشيخ أبي القاسم بن عبد العزيز المنيعي البغوي ثم البغدادي محدث العراق في زمانه وعلى ذكر لمن سمع منه من حفاظ الحديث وأعيان الرواة، وبالرجوع للمنهجية المتبعة في ترتيب الكتاب نجد أن المصنف قد عمد إلى ترتيب ما جمعه من أسماء على حروف المعجم، ذاكراً تحت كل اسم ما انتهى إلى علمه من مولده ووفاته ونبذة من أسماء شيوخه، ورواته وما تيسر له من حديث أكثرهم عنه. ولأهمية هذا الكتاب اعتنى بتحقيق مادته وبتوضيح ما أبهم من معانيه، وبالرجوع لعمل المحقق نجد أنه يتحلى بـ أولاً: قام بنسخ المخطوط ثم قابل المنسوخ على المخطوط خشية وقوع الخطأ والسقط. ثانياً: قام بضبط الأحاديث الواردة وأسماء الإعلام ونسبهم الغريبة ضبطاً يزيل اللبس ويدفع الإشكال. ثالثاً: قام بتخريج الأحاديث النبوية والآثار السلفية وعزوها إلى مخرجيها مع الحكم على أسانيدها وفق قواعد أهل الحديث وأئمة الصناعة. رابعاً: عمل ترجمة للمصنف ثم قام بوصف النسخة المعتمدة في التحقيق وإثبات نسبة الكتاب إلى المصنف. خامساً: صنع في آخر الكتاب فهارس مساعدة منها للأحاديث والآثار، ومنها للاعلام والمترجمين، وآخر للموضوعات.
