مصنف هذا الكتاب تركي الأصل والمنشأ، ولد في "كمشنانه" بولاية طرابزون " تركيا" وتعلم في الأستانة وتوفي بها؛ عرف عنه بالبراعة في علم الحديث والتصوف وبالنباهة في كافة العلوم الشرعية هذا وكانت له مصنفات كثيرة قدرت بأكثر من خمسين مصنفاً، والكتاب الذين بين أيدينا "جامع الأصول في الأولياء" هو واحد من أهم كتبه وذلك لشمول مادته كافة أمهات ومصنفات الكتب الصادر قبل المصنف والتي تعنى بشرح مسألة التصوف ولاختلاف أهل الطريق، من شاذلية وقادرية ورفاعية وإبراهيمية وغيرهم. هذا وقد جمع المؤلف في كتابه هذا أصولهم حتى يتسنى له الدلائل الصحيحة، والإرشادات الفصيحة للبواطن والأذواق، والظواهر الجليات، وبالرجوع لمضمونه نجد أنه يحتوي على اصطلاحات أهل الطريق والصوفية وعلى أنواع الأولياء الصوفيين وأوصافهم، وشروط شيوخهم، ومصطلحاتهم وأنواع التصوف، وأصول طرق المتصوفين، وحتى يأتي الكتاب كاملاً متكاملاً لكافة جوانب موضوع المتصوفة وأوليائهم اعتنى المصنف بوضع مقامات للكتاب بدأها بكلمات الصوفية واصطلاحاتهم وبعد ذلك انتقل إلى مراتب العباد وتعلقهم ومظهريتهم بجمع الأسماء الإلهية، وفي النهاية بين الكثير من الشروط والآداب والمسالك والكلمات البديعة والمهمات في الشريعة والطريقة والحقيقة والمعرفة.
ذكر المؤلف وهو من مشايخ تركيا- ت 1311هـ- أنه جمع في كتابه نبذة من أصول الطريق وأوصافها والأولياء وأنواعهم واصطلاحهم وأطوارهم وبعض أسرارهم وآدابهم ومسالكهم وشروطهم إجمالاً. ومع الكتاب متممات له وفيها اصطلاحات الصوفية مرتبة على حروف الهجاء ومراتب العباد
