يكشف هذا الكتاب عن وجود كنوز جديدة من الكتب العلمية لم تشر إليها كتب التراجم، كما يكشف من ترجماتٍ لشخصيات فذة لعبت دوراً علمياً بارزاً لا نجد لها ذكراً في كتب التراجم المعاصرة. كما يرينا حركة نشطة في نسخ الكتب، فيذكر المؤلف أن جدّه كان ينسخ الكتب بيده ويستنسخ ويشتري حتى كوّن مكتبة من خمسمائة مجلد ليس منها كتاب إلا وله عليه تعليق.
بالإضافة إلى ذلك يرينا المؤلف فصولاً عن حركة العلماء وتنقلهم بين الهجر من أجل نشر المعرفة، كما يعطينا صورة نابضة للحياة العلمية في هُجَر: "الأبناء" و"بهان" و"ذي مرمر"، ونموذجاً عن التهجير في "بني جرموز" وكيف كان التهجير يشكل حماية وسط مجتمع ضار ويكشف لنا عن وجود مكتبات من أعظم خزائن كتب الزيدية عند القضاة بني الذرّة الحاتميين الساكنين في الحيمة وعن مكتبة المؤلف نفسه وعن مكتبة ذي مرمر التي أنشأها "علي بن الإمام شرف الدين".
بالإضافة إلى ذلك يحدثنا المؤلف عن المجالس العريضة التي كان يحضرها الإمام شرف الدين للإقراء والاستماع في صعدة على ملأ من الناس، ويحدثنا كيف حوّل علي بن الإمام شرف الدين حصن ذي مرمر في قلعة عسكرية إلى قلعة فكرية فعلاً، وسهّل للعلماء الانتقال إليها أمثال أحمد بن عبد الله الوزير ومؤلف هذا الكتاب والعشرات من العلماء.
وبهدف الإبداع والاستكشاف يقدم الباحث للناس هذا الكتاب، لأنه يضيء الماضي بقدر الذي يكشف عن فساد مقولة خاطئة مفادها أن اليمن عاشت أكثر من ألف سنة في جهل مطبق، وسيرى القارئ بأن هذا الكتاب، إلى جانب وقائع أخرى، لا يسند هذه المقولة بأية حال، بل يخذلها بشكل مزري.
